Monitoring the server

The Monitor tab shows how hard the server is working. Check it during a busy exam.

Network quality

Shows the data going into the server (from the lab computers) and out to them, and how much each connected computer is getting.

Quality is measured against the busiest moments of the current session, not a fixed number:

Quality What it means
Good Normal
Degraded Noticeable slowdown. Use cable connections instead of Wi-Fi where you can.
Critical Students may see pages time out. Reduce the number of connected computers, or check the network equipment.

CPU, RAM and storage

Charts for the last five minutes show the processor (CPU) and memory (RAM) used by Surepass and by the computer as a whole, and how much space is left on the drive.

Drive health

For drives that report it, the Monitor tab shows:

  • Drive Temperature: safe is 0 to 55°C.
  • Drive type: SSD or hard drive (HDD).
  • Drive Reliability: Endurance Remaining, Read Errors, Write Errors and how long the drive has been in use.

USB drives and some other drives do not report health. The panel then says Health counters not available for this drive.

When to act

You see Do this
Drive failure indicators detected Back up now and replace the drive
Drive temperature high Improve the airflow around the server
HDD detected — SSD recommended Plan to move to an SSD for faster exams
High CPU or RAM during every exam Consider a computer with more memory. See Choosing your server computer.
