Connecting computers to the server

Every lab and staff computer opens Surepass from the school server over your school network.

Install the Client Edition from the server

You do not need the internet for this. The server keeps its own copy of the installers.

  1. On the server's Overview tab, find Install the Client or Individual Edition from and its address.
  2. On the lab computer, open that address in a web browser.
  3. Download and install the Client Edition.

Repeat on every computer. You can also download the Client Edition from the Academium downloads page.

Opening Surepass on a Client computer

Open Academium Surepass Client. It looks for servers on the network and connects by itself. If it finds more than one, choose your school's server and click Connect. See Client Edition.

The server's address

The Overview tab shows the address students and staff can also open in a web browser:

  • a name address, http://academiumsurepass.local followed by the port number, which works on any device on the same network;
  • Direct IP addresses, such as http://192.168.1.20: and a port number. Use one of these if the name address does not open on some devices. Each one belongs to a different network connection on the server.

Click Copy to copy an address.

Phones and tablets

Students can scan the Scan to connect QR code on the status card to open Surepass in a phone or tablet browser. Tests and exams that need a desktop show Desktop Required, so use computers in the lab for those.

Seeing who is connected

The Client Apps list on the Overview tab shows the computers connected right now, with their names and addresses. On Linux, see the Clients tab.

Common problems

The Client Edition says "No servers found". Check that the server says Server Running, and that the computer is on the school network, not a phone hotspot. Click Scan again, or Connect manually and enter an address from the Overview tab.

Some computers cannot open the name address. Use a Direct IP address instead.

Lab computers show the wrong time. The Client Edition sets each computer's clock from the server every hour. See Network and time.
