Setting up the Individual Edition

The Individual Edition is for one person's own computer. It keeps a copy of your school's records on the computer, so you can work anywhere, even with no connection.

Installing

Download the Individual Edition from the Academium website or, if your school has a server, from the server's Download page. Install it and open it.

The first screen says Welcome to Academium SMS. Let's set up your school. and asks how you would like to start.

Log In: your school is already using Academium

Choose Log In, then pick how you connect:

School Server

Choose this if your school has its own server and you are on the school network.

  1. Academium looks for servers on your network. Pick your school's server from the list.
    • If it is not listed, choose Enter URL manually and type the address your administrator gives you.
  2. Enter your username (or email or phone number) and password, and choose Sign In.

Staff Sign-in Code

Choose this if your school runs online without a school server, or you are away from school. You need a six-character school code and your own eight-character sign-in code. See Signing in with a staff sign-in code.

Academium Account

Choose this if you are the school owner. Sign in with the email address and password of your school's Academium Account.

Set Up a New School

Choose this if your school is not on Academium yet. You create the school's Academium Account and set up your school, which takes a few minutes:

This creates an online school, run through the Academium portal. Every step is explained in Setting up a school on the Individual Edition.

Download progress

While Academium copies your school's data to the computer, it shows a progress bar and, once it can measure the speed, how long is left. It may also show Did you know? tips while you wait.

The first time on this computer

After you sign in, Academium shows Setting up your school data while it copies your school's records to the computer. Keep the app open. This only happens once on each computer, and can take a few minutes for a large school.

Then you set your PIN and security questions. See Your first sign-in.

You only sign in once on this computer. From then on, the Individual Edition opens already signed in every time you start it, even offline, and you unlock it with your PIN. See Sign in once, then use your PIN.

Common issues

"No servers found on your network." Make sure you are on the school network and the school server is running, then choose Scan again, or enter the address manually.

"No school linked to this account." The Academium Account you signed in with has no school yet. Choose Register school to set one up.

"Sync failed" while setting up your school data. Check your connection and choose Retry, or choose Continue offline to start working; your data syncs when you reconnect.
