Working offline and syncing
The Individual Edition keeps a copy of your school's records on your computer. You can carry on working when the internet is down, at home, or anywhere the school cannot be reached.
How syncing works
- Everything you do is saved on your computer straight away.
- When your computer can reach the school (the school server or the Academium portal), your changes are sent, and changes made by your colleagues come in.
- If your school uses both a school server and the portal, the Individual Edition uses the school server when it can reach it, and the portal when you are away.
You do not need to do anything to sync. It happens by itself in the background.
How long you can stay offline
Your school decides how long a computer may go without reaching the school. This is usually 5 days, but it can be 10 or 15 days, or never, depending on your role. When the time runs out:
- Academium still opens, but it will not open your account until the computer reconnects.
- It tells you how to reconnect.
Reconnect to the school network or the internet, and you can carry on. Your work is kept.
Before you uninstall or hand the computer on
Make sure your changes have reached the school first: connect to the school network or the internet and give it a few minutes. Then sign out of the school on this computer. See Signing out of the school on this computer.
Common issues
"Sign in to your school again." The computer has been offline for longer than your school allows, or the school asked it to sign out. Connect, then sign in. Everything on the computer is kept, and you will be back where you left off.
"This device has been removed from your school." An administrator has removed or locked this computer. The school office can unlock it or enrol it again. See Devices and access.
"Still no luck. The school may not be reachable yet." Try again in a few minutes, or sign out and use another account.
