Creating a test

Click Create Test on the Tests page. A test is built in six steps. Click Save & Continue at the end of each one.

Before you start

  • An active term. If the Details step says No active term found, set one under School Settings → Terms.
  • Subjects, with questions in the question bank.
  • Classes (schools) or groups (independent teachers).

1. Details

  • Subject: every question in the test must be from this subject. It is locked once questions are added.
  • Test Type: the assessment type, such as 1st CA. This decides where the score goes in the class result.
  • Academic Term: set from the active term.
  • Instructions: shown to students before they start.

2. Settings

Setting What it does
Duration Mode Auto works out the time from the number of questions. Manual lets you set a duration for each class.
Marks Per Question Auto shares marks equally. Manual lets you set marks yourself.
Pass Percentage When on, students are shown pass or fail against your Minimum % to pass. Off by default.
Shuffle Questions A different question order for each student
Shuffle Options A different answer order in multiple-choice questions
Restrict Attempts Limit how many times each student can take it
Allow Question Navigation Students can move back and forth. Turn off to make them go in order.
Allow Calculator A calculator on screen
Allow 4-Figure Tables A 4-figure mathematical tables button

3. Classes

Click Add Class (or Add Group) for each class that sits the test. For each one you can set the Duration and Marks/Q if you chose Manual above.

4. Section Types

For each class, choose Objective (marked automatically), Theory (marked by a teacher), or both. This decides which questions you can add. With both, choose which section students start with.

5. Questions

Add questions for each class and section. See Adding questions to a test.

6. Schedule

Publish the test and give it a time. See Scheduling a test.

After a schedule has started

Some settings are locked once a test has an active or past schedule: duration, marks and shuffle. You can still change the pass percentage and the attempt limit. Classes that already have attempts are locked in the Section Types step.
