Before you set up
Setting up Surepass at a school or centre takes four steps:
- Get your Academium account ready. Your school or centre needs Surepass on its Academium account.
- Choose a server computer and install the Server Edition on it.
- Link the server to your school or centre by signing in with your Academium account.
- Connect the other computers by installing the Client Edition on them.
What you need
- An Academium account for your school or centre, with Surepass. When Surepass is added to your school (or school branch) on the Academium portal, Academium creates your school in Surepass and an owner account with the owner's email address. Tutorial centres are set up by Academium. You sign in to the server with this account's email and password.
- A server computer running Windows 10 or Windows 11 (64-bit), or Ubuntu Server or Ubuntu Desktop (an LTS version), with at least 8 GB of memory (16 GB recommended) and 256 GB of storage (two drives recommended: one for the system, one for local backups). Windows needs a valid licence (product key); Windows 11 is recommended. See Choosing your server computer.
- A school network that connects the server to your lab and staff computers. Wired connections are best for exams.
- An internet connection for the first setup, so the server can link to your school and download the question bank. After that, exams run on your school network alone.
Need a server computer, a Windows licence, or a school network set up? Academium Plus sells preconfigured servers and genuine Microsoft licences, and sets up school networks. Contact Academium Plus or Academium support for a free quote.
If your school also uses Academium SMS
Set up Surepass in the same way. Your classes, students, staff, subjects, session and terms can then come across from SMS, so you do not type them twice. See Surepass and Academium SMS.
