Subscription and the admin password

The server control panel's Portal tab shows your school's plan and lets the school owner handle a few account tasks. Each of them asks for the Academium Account (portal) password to confirm it is really you.

Your plan

The top of the Portal tab shows your plan, your branch and the number of seats it includes. If your subscription has expired, the control panel tells you, and access may be restricted until it is renewed.

Renewing without an internet connection

If the server cannot reach the internet, you can still renew:

  1. Renew on the Academium portal from any computer with internet access, and download your renewal file. It ends in .spr.
  2. Copy the file to the server computer.
  3. On the Portal tab, choose Offline Renewal, select the file, and confirm with your portal password.

The Academium Licence page

On a school server, Academium SMS itself has an Academium Licence page in School Settings, for the School Owner. It shows the licence's start and end dates and this installation's Install ID.

If Academium asks for a licence:

  1. Give the Install ID to Academium. It is what Academium needs to issue a licence for this installation.
  2. Upload the licence file Academium sends you.

"This licence has ended." Upload a new one from Academium. "The licence held here is not valid for this installation." Upload the licence issued for this Install ID.

Resetting the administrator's password

If the school administrator account on the server can no longer sign in to Academium SMS:

  1. On the Portal tab, choose Reset Admin Password.
  2. Confirm with your portal password.
  3. Enter and confirm a new password for the administrator account.

Factory reset

Factory Reset stops the server and permanently deletes this school's data on this computer, including its records, its backups and its configuration. It cannot be undone. Take a backup to an external drive first, and contact Academium support before using it.

Use it only when you are retiring the server computer, or when Academium support asks you to.

Common issues

"Setup did not finish." (Linux) The server is linked to your school, but creating the school did not complete. Choose Finish setup and enter your portal password. It only creates what is missing and leaves existing records alone, so it is safe to run more than once. If it still does not finish, contact support before trying Factory Reset.

On Windows, an interrupted setup resumes when you open the Server Edition again: the setup screens reopen where they stopped, and Finish setup completes it.
