Journal entries

Journal entries record adjustments between accounts that are not simple income or expenses, such as correcting a posting, or moving money between accounts. Open School Accounting → Journals → Journal Entries.

Creating a journal entry

  1. Enter the date, a reference and a description.
  2. Add the debit and credit lines.
  3. Attach a supporting document if you have one.
  4. Tick adjusting entry if it is a period-end adjustment.
  5. Tick auto reversing and choose a date, if the entry should reverse itself later.

Save stays switched off until the entry balances: total debits must equal total credits.

Drafts and posting

  • Save an entry as a draft to finish later. Drafts can be edited or deleted.
  • Post it when it is final. Posted entries cannot be edited; to undo one, reverse it.

Templates

Save entries you make often as templates, so next time you only change the amounts.
