Laying out a lab room

The layout editor shows the room as a grid. Make it match the real room.

Seats

  • Click an empty cell to add a seat. Give it a Seat Label (such as A1), a Serial Number if you like, its Status, and choose the computer under Assign Device.
  • Click a seat to edit or remove it.
  • Drag and drop seats to move them.

Faulty equipment

For each seat, mark the monitor, mouse, keyboard and CPU as Good or Bad, and describe the issue in Notes. A seat with anything marked Bad becomes Maintenance by itself and is not given to students.

Aisles and exits

  • Walkways adds aisles at the edges or between rows and columns, and sets how wide they are.
  • Hover over an aisle strip to place an exit on it.
  • Click the Front and Back labels to rename them, for example "Teacher's desk".

Other tools

  • Resize Grid: change the rows and columns (up to 10). Seats outside the new size are removed.
  • Clear: Clear PC assignments keeps the seats but unlinks the computers; Clear seats & PCs empties the grid.
  • Undo (Ctrl+Z) and Redo (Ctrl+Y).
  • Full Screen hides the side panel.

Click Save when you are done. Unsaved changes reminds you.

Auto Arrange: matching computers to seats

The quickest way to link each real computer to its seat.

  1. Save the layout first.
  2. Sit at the computer at Seat 1 (top left) and click Auto Arrange, then Start Auto Arrange. This computer becomes Seat 1. If there are no seats yet, the grid is filled with seats first.
  3. On every other lab computer, the sign-in page switches to Location Mode.
  4. Walk to each computer in order. Click Locate to give that computer the next seat, or Skip to leave the seat empty.

Seats go row by row, left to right. The editor shows the progress, then All seats arranged! Click Stop Auto Arrange to finish early.
