First-time school setup

The first time someone signs in to a new school, or a new branch, Academium asks a few questions before anything else. A school with no session or classes has nowhere to file anything, so these come first.

Step 1: Set up your school

The screen says Welcome to your school's name, and lists the things to set up. Each one can be changed later from the settings pages. Steps that are already done, for example because you chose classes when creating the school, show as Done.

Your school colours

Pick the colour your school is known by. Academium uses it for buttons, links and highlights. You can change it later under School Settings → Appearance.

Session and terms

The academic year everything is filed under.

  1. Name the session, for example 2026/2027, and enter its start and end dates.
  2. Leave Create the three terms as well ticked to create the terms too.

Terms start inactive. The school moves into a term from Session Settings when it begins. See Sessions and terms.

If the school already has a session, for example because another branch created it, this step is optional. Choose I already have one.

Assessment types

How a subject's mark is broken up. Most schools use two continuous assessments and an exam. Choose + Add another to add more, such as a project.

Classes and sections

Pick the structure that matches your school, for example Junior and Senior Secondary (JSS 1–3, SSS 1–3 in Science, Arts and Commercial). Academium shows what it will create and asks you to confirm. Everything can be renamed, added to or removed afterwards.

You can Skip for now and set these up later from the settings pages instead. Academium will not show this screen again.

Step 2: Making it yours

Next, a short welcome takes about a minute. Every step can be skipped.

  1. Choose your school's colour, if you have not already. The page changes as you pick.
  2. Add your school's logo. It appears in the app, on report cards, ID cards and anything else you print. PNG, JPG, WebP or GIF, up to 2 MB.
  3. Start with the usual subjects? Academium can add the standard Nigerian subjects your school does not have yet, so you are not typing them one at a time. Subjects you already have are left alone.
  4. You're ready to go. Academium suggests good places to start: admitting students, adding parents, adding staff and their roles, setting up fees, and taking your first register.

The welcome only runs once for each branch.

Step 3: The tour

Academium then shows you around with a short guided tour. You can turn guided tours off or back on in your personal preferences.
