# Terms

Tests and exams belong to a **term**, and you need an **active term** to create them. Open **School Settings → Terms**.

1. Click **Add Term**.
2. Choose the **Session**, and enter the **Term Name** (such as First Term), **Start Date** and **End Date**.
3. Tick **Set as Active Term** for the current one.

Click **Set Active** on a term to make it current. Reports and the **Academic Period** in the top bar follow the active term.

Schools using Academium SMS get their terms from SMS.
