# Surepass and Academium SMS

If your school also uses **Academium SMS**, the two work together. SMS stays the place where your school's records are kept, and Surepass runs the computer-based tests and exams.

## What Surepass takes from SMS

- your **session and terms**;
- your **subjects**;
- your **classes and sections**;
- your **students**;
- your **staff**, who can then sign in to Surepass with their Academium password;
- your **exam halls**, which become Surepass **lab rooms**;
- your **mark distribution** (for example 1st CA, 2nd CA, Exam), which becomes your Surepass **assessment types**.

While your school runs this way, sessions, terms and subjects show **Managed by Academium** in Surepass. Change them in SMS, and Surepass picks up the change.

## What Surepass sends back to SMS

## How the two connect

- **Both on school servers:** when the SMS server and the Surepass server run at your school, they find each other on the network and link by themselves.
- **SMS on the Academium portal only:** Surepass can keep a copy of your SMS records on the Surepass server. Set it up from the server's **Portal** tab. See [The Portal tab](https://helpcenter.academium.com.ng/academium-surepass/article/sp-the-portal-tab.md).
