# Searching Academium

Search finds people, classes and pages anywhere in Academium SMS. Press **Ctrl + K** (or click the search box in the top bar) and start typing.

## What you can find

| Search for | By |
| --- | --- |
| **Students** | Name, admission number or class |
| **Staff** | Name, staff ID, email or department |
| **Parents** | Name, email or phone number |
| **Classes** | Class name |
| **Fee templates** | Template name |
| **Pages** | Any page in Academium, such as "fee allocation" or "mark entry" |

Search starts after two letters and shows the best 12 matches. You only see results your role has access to.

## It forgives typos and understands everyday words

- A slip or two in a name still finds the person.
- Exact matches come first, then names that start with what you typed.
- Everyday words work: **owing**, **debtor** or **arrears** find fees due; **salary** finds payroll; **add** finds pages for creating or registering things.

## Shortcuts from a result

Some results have shortcuts, so you can go straight to what you need:

- **A student:** profile, invoice, attendance, transport or hostel.
- **A member of staff:** profile or today's attendance.
- **A class:** its students, invoices, transport, hostel, timetable, class teacher or parents.

## Narrowing your search

Use the buttons **All**, **Students**, **Staff**, **Parents** and **Go to**, or type a short prefix:

## Using the keyboard

Use the **arrow keys** to move through results, **Enter** to open one, and **Esc** to close search.

## Common issues

**A page I hid from my sidebar shows up separately.** Pages you hid are listed under **Hidden from your sidebar** and cannot be opened from search. Show them again from your sidebar arrangement.

**Someone I am looking for does not appear.** Check the spelling of at least two letters, and that your role has access to that kind of record.
