# Mark Distribution

A **mark distribution** is a component that an exam's total is made up of, such as *1st C.A.*, *2nd C.A.* or *Exam*. Open **Exam Center → Exam → Mark Distribution**.

- Add each component your school uses. When you created your school, the components for your chosen assessment pattern were added for you.
- The list shows which exams and papers use each component, and whether marks have been entered against it.

> **Warning:** Renaming a component changes its name everywhere it appears, **including report cards already issued**. A component that has marks entered against it cannot be deleted.

## How exams use them
