# Expenses

**School Accounting → Expenses** records money the school spends.

## Recorded for you

Salary payments are recorded automatically when payroll is paid, linked to each payslip. See [Paying staff](https://helpcenter.academium.com.ng/academium-sms/article/sms-paying-staff.md).

## Recording an expense

Record the **date**, the **account** it was paid from, the **transaction category**, the **amount** and a **reference**. Categories are set up under [Transaction Categories](https://helpcenter.academium.com.ng/academium-sms/article/sms-transaction-categories.md).

## Bank charges

Choose a charge preset if your bank deducts a charge. Academium shows the **net amount** as you type.

## Deleted expenses

Deleted entries are kept under **Deleted Transactions**, with who removed them and why. See [Deleted Transactions](https://helpcenter.academium.com.ng/academium-sms/article/sms-deleted-transactions.md).
