# Approval Levels

Payroll is approved in **levels** before anyone is paid. Open **Payroll → Approval Levels**.

Open **Payroll → Approval Levels**.

1. Add a level for each approval step, for example *Head of Finance*, then *Principal*.
2. Choose **one approver** for each level.
3. Optionally choose a **delegate**, who can approve when the approver is away.

One person can only hold one level, and two people cannot be each other's delegates.
